Healing Pathways Companion and Facilitator’s Guide

The Healing Pathways Companion and Facilitator’s Guide

A narrative-based framework for recovery, reflection, and guided transformation.

Healing Pathways books cover

The Healing Pathways Companion and The Healing Pathways Facilitator’s Guide are part of Steve R. Patterson’s larger body of work on recovery, healing, story, identity, dependency, meaning, and personal transformation.

These two books were designed to work together. The Companion speaks to the individual walking the path. The Facilitator’s Guide supports the person helping others walk it in a group, community, recovery, or facilitation setting.

Healing Pathways grew out of lived experience, illness, addiction recovery, clinical practice, group facilitation, spiritual inquiry, and the long process of rebuilding a life after collapse. It is not a quick-fix program and not a rigid system. It is a framework for people willing to look honestly at the stories they have carried and the life they are trying to build now.

About the Books

The Healing Pathways Companion is the reader’s entry point into the work. It invites self-reflection, journaling, narrative practice, and personal exploration. It asks readers to examine the stories they have inherited, repeated, survived, and sometimes mistaken for identity.

The Companion is built for people moving through recovery, illness, grief, dependency, transition, identity disruption, or the deeper question of what comes next after life has broken open.

The Healing Pathways Facilitator’s Guide provides structure for group leaders, counselors, recovery coaches, peer-support workers, and facilitators who want to bring the Healing Pathways framework into group or community settings.

The Facilitator’s Guide includes session structure, facilitation notes, discussion prompts, and practical ways to hold space without turning the work into a script. It is designed to support real conversation, not performance.

What Readers and Facilitators Will Find

  • A narrative-based approach to recovery, healing, and personal transformation.
  • Reflection questions, journaling prompts, and practices for personal exploration.
  • A framework that works with story, body, memory, meaning, relationship, intention, and integration.
  • Facilitation guidance for counselors, recovery coaches, peer-support workers, group leaders, and community facilitators.
  • A structure that respects the connection between mind, body, and spirit without forcing the work into one system or ideology.

These books are not about prescribing one correct way forward. They are about opening pathways. The Companion meets the reader where they are. The Facilitator’s Guide helps group leaders hold space for others moving through similar work.

The Twelve Paths

Healing Pathways is organized around twelve paths. These are not steps to complete once and leave behind. They are places a person may return to as life changes and the work deepens.

  1. The Beginning of Healing — challenging the myth that healing is linear.
  2. The Stories We Tell — examining the narratives that shape identity.
  3. Intent and Purpose — clarifying direction and choosing how to move forward.
  4. Mindfulness and Presence — returning to the body and the present moment.
  5. Turning Inward with Kindness — meeting the inner critic without surrendering to it.
  6. Releasing Resentment — loosening the grip of old pain and unfinished anger.
  7. Healing Through Connection — understanding how relationships shape recovery and identity.
  8. Building Inner Strength — developing resilience without hardening into armor.
  9. The Nature of Lasting Change — working with change as a lived process.
  10. Core Values and Meaning — defining what matters now.
  11. Integration for Wholeness — bringing the pieces of the self back into relationship.
  12. Continuing the Journey — living the work beyond the page, the session, or the moment of insight.

How This Connects to Steve’s Larger Work

If This Is How It Feels to Heal is the foundation, the Healing Pathways books are the practice and the framework. The earlier book tells the story of illness, addiction recovery, transplant, spiritual inquiry, survival, and rebuilding. The Healing Pathways books translate that lived experience into a structure others can use for reflection, group work, and personal transformation.

Healing Pathways also connects to Steve’s ASAM-related facilitator work, but it now has a different public home.

StevePatterson.online serves as the central identity and résumé hub for Steve’s books, media projects, digital legacy, recovery frameworks, and public work.

Wind and Raven is the public home for the reflective, personal, and spiritual side of Healing Pathways, including the YouTube video series and future public conversations.

Valkyrie Counseling Group is the professional and publishing home for Healing Pathways facilitator resources, the ASAM Level 1 Facilitator’s Guide, and recovery-oriented group education.

Healing Pathways on Wind and Raven

The public Healing Pathways video series will be hosted through Wind and Raven.

On the Wind and Raven YouTube channel, Steve walks through the Healing Pathways material chapter by chapter, exploring recovery, dependency, illness, grief, identity, story, meaning, embodiment, spiritual inquiry, and the long work of becoming whole after life has broken open.

These videos are educational and reflective. They are not counseling, therapy, treatment, diagnosis, crisis support, or a substitute for professional care.
